Little post from my Uni project

Here are some example thumbnail pages from my Multiple Sclerosis project for Uni. These thumbnails are A4 and due to time restraints on the project will become the Pencils too hahaha That way I can just tidy them up in the inking stages. The backgrounds or lack of has a reason which I shall show when I have done the final first page.

Look forward to more and thanks again for reading xD

Thought Bubble and Nelson.

THOUGHT BUBBLE 2011
So I ended up at Thought Bubble in Leeds this year. Was my first time and I have to say I enjoyed it xD What I love is the different types of people I am getting to know and the variety of comics that are slowly cropping up at these events. Slowly I am starting to feel more and more part of the comic community. Was much quieter at TB2011 that MCM is which was a nice change and very much refreshing. The after party was very much amusing, someone described it as like being a school disco and I was so shocked at how accurate that description was xD Wasn't a bad thing as once the music started everyone was on that dancefloor dancing away! Was so much fun! I ended up spending the sunday buying stuff and spending most of the day in Leeds itself..... on more comics and hot chocolate. It's such a lovely city.
Here are some pics from TB2011.

NELSON!!!!!!!!
Now this is what I picked up at TB2011. This has been promoted everywhere. BlankSlate's Nelson! For those who do not know NELSON is a graphic novel composed of 52 of the the UK's finest Comickers.

It's such a charming little story and as I was reading it I found myself remembering the events and feeling a lot for the characters. Partly because Nel, the main character spends alot of her adult life in the era I grew up in. Although at points I did find myself feeling old hahahaha
I have a such a fondness for this book. I think it is due to what I said earlier. Even though I have not sold a comic at Expo or yet can call myself a Pro. Due to meeting new comickers and slowly integrating myself into the Comic society I feel a sort of admiration and proudness of this book. It shows what comics can become and how they can get people together. It's such a beautiful book and I really suggest people read it.
I am proud to call myself a Comicker when I see stuff like this.
Here is a list of all my fav artwork within the book.

Arty bits and bobs....

Hey peeps!! been a while no? xD
Started back at Uni so been busy busy. I was going to do a short comic that would of been submitted to Non Repro (an indie published anthology of comics) but this uni project has taken up a lot of my time now. Plus any free time I do have I just sit and read, play the PS3 and do whatever xD

Anyhoo thought I'd share with you an image I worked on for my first project. It's the first image.... Maybe conceptual image for the project would be a better term.

The project is on Multiple Sclerosis and the project brief I set myself was Information Through Story Telling.
The title of the brief says it all really xD

Anyhoo must continue with work... DARK SOULS TOMORROW!!!

Comic challenge.

Hey guys!!

Been thinking about my online comic I have going on SmackJeeves right now and well kinda thinking I need to start moving from the 1 pagers. They are fun and allow me to be funny (sort of, haha!) but been thinking I should go into longer comics now. I'll still keep to the 1 pagers but just want to try my hands at writing something longer.

This is where I need your help, to be honest with you all I am mega stuck lol I'm having trouble writing and coming up with ideas at the moment >_<

SO THE CHALLENGE.
The challenge is mainly for myself but I what I would like you guys to do is as follows.

Send me a Theme and a number between 8-20 and that is it lol So the theme will become the basis of the story and the number you pick will be the number of pages.

I'll pick 3 that stand out and send me your Name (website/twitter ect) if you have one as I will mention you in the comic and give links ect as it will be going up online. Plus if you would like to feature as the character of the comic send me a pic too XD The 3 I pic I may even print and send to you. I've never printed a comic before so it be good experience to have an excuse to do that too hahaha!!

Be a big help XD

Look forward to hearing from ya.

Drop is a message on my twitter @Fred_ORourke or send me an E-mail at frederick.orourke@gmail.com

PRIDE

Hey ho!
Been busy with work a lot recently and trying to get around doing a regular release of my webcomic. So recently all over twitter London Pride was trending. I am not sure if I am the only one that this happens to but if I see something I will get an image I could possibly draw that wouldn't really be to what the actual meaning is to the thing I have just seen. So I sometimes try to make it fit.

Like I did with this image:

This was the idea I got from reading London Pride LOL To make it fit with the actual meaning to
London Pride I added the rainbow flag behind the word PRIDE.
I like the it but there are somethings that I am not find of lol
This started of another idea for an image I had in my head that I wanted to do.

Diary of a Comicker: LaunchPad

http://diaryofacomicker.smackjeeves.com/comics/1224554/launchpad/

Yes LaunchPad!! Was amazing!! Really enjoyed it!
There were lots of talks and workshops going on throughout the day! Found that Emma Vieceli's talk
was the most inspiring and what I got the most out of!! She spoke about well... everything.
From how she got into her career to Networking to well... all sorts haha
Was really inspiring and fired me up to actually make this Comic!
We got to chat to her and her partner after in the little bar area and I had such a good afternoon
that I came home and pre booked Thought Bubble tickets in the hope to get
to be able to go to the afterparty! LOL

Diary of a Comicker: Money issues.

Started my first ever webcomic!! Gonna be a little diary, I have the idea of drawing it as
I go along rather then pre planning anything.
Having issues with calibration with my cintiq. Hopefully will sort itself out soon.

Randomness.

I actually kinda like this character. May do a few more with him in.
Maybe refine his design and actually use him as a character in this comic I am writing.

OUT OF SIGHT.

I am currently in the process of writing a short comic that will probably consist of three to four short chapters.
I have had this idea for a few months now and since I have not written a comic for myself in a very long while, I thought I'd do one over the summer.
If it turns out well and gets a good response online I may even end up printing it out and selling it at one of the up coming Expo's.

Anyway I thought I would share the intro that I have written up To give you an idea what it's about.

INTRO:

You know I never thought I’d ever tell people this story.
I suppose it’s an on going story to be honest with you.... Whoever you maybe.
The analogy of the closet.... Interesting one really. I mean what is a closet for?
Most people see it to just hang your clothes in... Keep them out of sight.
There! That’s the key phrase... “Keep them out of sight” but what else would you want to keep out of sight?
Your dirty little secrets is what. Whether they are locked away in a small shoe box or hanging there like skeletons, rattling away wanting to come out. You keep them there, locked away. Never really bathing in the light.
This isn’t one of those tales mind you, I’m not even sure it has an ending. It just is what it is.... A series of events. Events where just for one moment, you open the doors just a tad and let the world have a glimpse of those very secrets...

HOPE YOU LIKE and it sounds interesting LOL
